***** HURRICANE IRENE *****
Using Hurricane Isabel as "lessons learned", expect loosing power within the first few hours and going without for several days. Stock up accordingly and plan to "camp out" in your home. You may still have running water but without electricity, your grinder pump will not push water from your home to the sewer system so plan accordingly when flushing toilets, taking showers, and washing dishes/clothing. In other words, waste water will back up into your home if you exceed your tanks capacity.
Should Gloucester County initiate a mandatory evacuation...GO! Unless you want to become a 2011 Darwin Award recipient, it would be extremely wise to heed the warning. Guinea Road to Rt 17 could become inaccessible for several hours to days due to downed trees and debris so waiting until the last minute to leave will be too late.
Residents on the creek side of East Creek Lane can expect storm surges into their back yard and up to their home. Everyone will experience high sustained winds with torrential rain and possible flooding.
Remove or secure all patio furniture, toys, garden tools, lawn ornaments, and trash continers to prevent from flying into your or your neighbors house. Walk around your yard, if you can pick it up, so will the winds.
Again, this is based on past experience from hurricane Isabel, hurricane Irene is as unpredictable as any storm so don't take it lightly.
Once the storm has passed is when our challenges begin...
